So true about how the LS1 guys feel about their overrated engines! Okay, I have stayed quiet until now, but I have to ask. Why do you say the LSX motors are overrated? Please give specific examples and not simple opinions. If anything they are underrated. For instance, my '02 T/A WS6 was rated at 320 flywheel horsepower, it actually made 318 rwhp or approximately 365 flywheel horsepower figuring a minimum 15% drivetrain loss. Our heads flow way better than any other stock heads before them. They make much better torque due to the 3.62" stroke. They are significantly lighter due to all aluminum block and heads, and composite intake. The coil on plug design is vastly superior to the infamous Opti-spark. That is enough for starters. Now tell me why the LTX motors are superior.

I agree that the LSX platform of motors tends to be underated as I have dynoed dozens of stock cars that put down more than they should according to the factory rating. They should make more power considering they have 15 degree heads and better engine management / ignition pieces. I think a lot of LTX guys forget the head issue. Power is always in the heads.

The 99+ LS1s also have a plastic lighter weight gas tank vs the 93-98 F-bodies.

Good point Jeff. And also, they may not be lighter in factory trim but when you put one on a diet they can ultimately be lighter.

They are both great engines. The LSX motor is more advanced as stated above. But......I can sure spank the hell out of 99% of the LS1's !! ;D It all comes down to how much is spent in mods.

The LS1 platform is a better motor in just about every way. There is no point in disputing it. The biggest advantage being the cylinder heads. But this doesn't mean that the LT1 isn't a cool motor with lots of potential. If your on a tight budget, I beleive the LT1 is a better route. I haven't quite given in to the idea of an aluminum block, but they do have the LQ9 with an iron block, and more displacement.

That's the bottom line man. How fast do you want to go? = How much do you want to spend? I'm pretty happy with my LT1 as well.

We all know that the LS1 is a superior motor, Im not trying to argue that Im just saying that alot of the LS1 guys that I know think they cant be touched, and it seems as if thats all I ever hear about anymore. The LS1s are way pricer than the LT1. Most have forgotten of the LT1, but it just seems that the extra money that could be spent to buy an LS1 could be spent on the LT1 to make it faster. Thats just me. Oh well it doesnt really matter does it? Were all F-body fans alike right? Dont get me wrong, I think they are great engines, just too pricey for me. Not trying to get on you LS1 guys' bad side, just trying to tell you why I would say they are in some instances overrated. No hard feelings, I know theyre great engines, just not for me. We have to have some competition among F-bodies though, right? Since most of the Mustangs are arent competition at all, we have to make it LT1-LS1. Just think, if there werent LT1 guys saying that LS1s are overrated, you might not have a reason to make your car fast, youd just dominate. ;D

Just rattlin' the LS1 guys' cage a little. Its all in fun. ;D No need for any of us to gent bent out of shape here. I don't think anybody is bent out of shape. I just don't think the word "overrated" applies. It means it doesn't live up to advertised or hyped abilities. That is why I said, "if anything, it is underrated", meaning if anything, it exceeds expectations. I know some guys who are making over 400 rwhp with long tubes, a cam, and a good tune. 15 years ago that was unheard of on anything other that big blocks. Not to toot my own horn, but how many cars (any cars or trucks) do you know of that make 550+ rwhp @ 6 psi (this is about to go up, by the way) and still get 24 mpg on the highway? To me, this is phenomenal. 6 psi isn't much. I figure 425-450 rwhp on motor alone with my baby cam. Most guys think my cam is too small even for stock cubes, but I wanted a lot of low end grunt and broad torque band, not a peaky, near undriveable cam that isn't happy below 2200 rpms. My stock motor made 349 lb/ft peak torque. Right now the new setup makes 350 at 2200, 400 by 2700, and 500+ from 3700 through red line. If you can picture this in your head, you can see this is exactly what I was looking for; a broad, flat torque band with a ton of power under the curve. My goal is in the 650 rwhp neighborhood. Got a new tensioner and compressor pulley going on now, which should get me close. Enough of that. Don't get me wrong, I think the LTX motors are great. There are a lot of them out there that could blow the dust off my car as they go by. My point is that the LSX motors have a greater potential and they are living up to and exceeding the hype. Are they more expensive to play with? Yes, at least for now, but this is still new technology; it will get cheaper as time goes by. Are those of us who own them stoked? Hell yeah and, as shown above, for good reason. Have we forgotten the LTXs? Only until one blows by and reminds us that no matter how fast you think you are, there is always someone faster. In my opinion, it just doesn't pay to talk trash, belittle, or disrespect anyone's ride because sooner or later, someone will put you in your place.

I hope I don't sound like a d!ck but, LSX, LTX, etc.. the platform doesn't matter, all the power's in the heads. Take my motor for example. Put a set of stock 23* LT1 heads on it and it's gonna make about 400hp. Put a set of 15* LS1 heads on it (assuming you could) and it would make about 480. With my 11* Nextel cup heads it makes 700+. I've been down this road before. Brand and platform loyalty is a fine thing and true car guys (and girls) should be proud of thier cars. Bottom line is flow makes power not platform. LSX motors seem to have a greater potential because it's easier to get killer flow from the heads without spending a fortune thanks to the architecture. Look at what you have to spend to get 315cfm+ flow from an LT1 head and you see my point.

If so, how much do they cost and where can you get them? Got any typical flow numbers on them and how well do you think they would run on the street? See what you started, Jeff?!? I wonder how much this is gonna cost me?

His truck is bad A! I have to wonder where he gets his money and if he does his own work. I doubt it. I respect a 300hp guy who does all his work but someone making 500 ponies that paid someone to do just doesn't bring a smile to my face.
