Actually, he prototyped the kit with my car...that is why I am number 2...number 1 is his car. Since his was a 9C1 and not an Impala he had the kit for the Caprices figured out, just wanted to do an Impala to make sure everything would work. I have about 80k on the conversion, absolutely love it. I think that the coolest thing is having five people in the car downshifting at 80 mph and hearing the reaction of all of those different people. Can't do that in a Corvette If you go to www.bigfastcar.com and look at customer's cars, I should be the one right below Josh's car.

I have been through three trannys and three rearends 383 is in the works.....stock motor is knocking, waiting for my short block, and small parts, then gonna do the deed....I can't wait. I am down from back surgery, so the cabin fever is compounded, plus I have a buddy using my driveway and shop to put LT's and X-pipe on his 05 GTO M6....I have to get outside and do something!!!

LOL, yeah that would have to suck. it sounds like you are abusing the drivetrain. what all is done, and happend, to the rearend and tranny?

Used transmissions were the biggest culprit there. As for the rear ends, I installed the first set of 4.10's too far out (too much pinion shim) which ended up being the death of the stock Auburn unit, it came out in a thousand pieces!!! Next, went with a Zexel-Torsen Series 4 and reused the gears. That unit really didn't like street use. I put some drag radials on it, took it off of the jack, and it just started clanking??? When I took it apart, the inner gears had rounded edges, and one of the ring's gears was chipped. So, I decided that 4.10's were the devil, went with 3.73's on my new Eaton. Hated the 3.73's so went back to 4.10's.....that is the long and short of it.....mostly long

LOL that sounds like fun. i thought the 4 and 3 series carriers had to have different gears.
i have a used t-56 that im needen to rebuild that im still think about doing it soon.

Save yourself and buy the Viper spec parts from D&D performance....think that they are in Michigan. Get the steel 3-4 shift fork, the carbon fiber blocker rings, and a roller bearing kit. Was about $600ish for parts, and I was able to find a local guy to put them in for $250. Although that sounds spendy, I spent $1300 on a rebuild that lasted 5k miles and it shattered second gear. Bite the bullet and do it right one time

the plan was for viper spec parts and do it myself. so if it blows up i blame myself

Man...that's awesome....only one thing about this car scares me, and that is the transmission. I've heard that if you have all of the right tools, they are not too bad. I noticed in your sig that you have a 79 Z with a 4 speed. I had one as well with a 3.73 posi. I loved that car but ended up selling it.

I just came over from the ImpalaSSForum after seeing Ray's post on the LE2 heads. I have a 95 Caprice with a few bolt ons, gears, and some stall. So far it's ran a best of 14.36 @ 94.

HvyChvy,
Welcome! Do you have the same screen name in the impalassforum? If so, I've seen you around the forum. I'm just starting to try and get some of the B body guys over here from Naisso and the Impalassforum, but you should be seeing more coming over after I get my promotional plan together. Once again, welcome, and let the posting begin.
