For me, I would have to go with a classic 396 in a 1st Gen Camaro or Chevelle. I love hearing my dad tell about how he dropped one in his 57 Chevy along with a 4 speed stick out of a 67 Chevelle SS.

personally i wouldnt do that to a 454ss i would get a v6 and the convert it over but that is me.
the 454 was a rare truck and will most likely be worth some money in the future.
and the v6 no one would car what you did to the truck

but if you have the Allison tranny that is totally different. hell the 4l80e is bigger than what they used back then.

I would duplicat a boat engine I did a few years back: Dart short deck 4.600" bore, 4.25" stroke, 10.2:1 compression, Crane hydraulic roller, AFR 357CNC heads, modified Dart intake, 950 Holley, Angle mill the heads down to 106cc, deck at .005" OUT of the block, 6.385" rods. On the dyno at PAR Engines in Spartanburg SC, it made 800 ft lbs and 800hp, all before 6000. I will give the info to anyone who wants it.
