That should whine pretty loudly... Why a roots after a centrifugal? Roots blowers heat the air up tremendously, I dont think I would want hot non-intercooled air from a centrifugal getting heated more by the roots.

The newer roots blowers have come along way. "Leak Back" has been nearly eliminated these days, giving the adiabatic efficiency of the classic roots design a nice increase. As a good side effect, the volumetric efficiency of the blower is improved as well.
I have been dying to test out that idea for about 8 years now! I just haven't had the budget for it. I might try it eventually with a little Lysholm Compressor (twin screw) that a friend of mine has sittin' around in his shop.
