Oh, I've got one like that. It squirts water though... Go to the shooting range often, Clem? Do you have other guns besides what you've posted? I used to go to the range with my father when I was younger, but it was mostly rifles/shotguns. I fired a handgun once, but I was real lousy at it...

Oh, I've got one like that. It squirts water though... I got one similar to this one but it shoots paintballs. Nice looking guns though. I plan on buying a 9mm pistol sometime for some extra home protection.

ive got an old .22 revolver also, but thats it for now. ive had a springfield 1911, a glock model 19, glock 26, a taurus .357 mag revolver but i tend to buy and sell stuff except for my SIGs and my .22. we'll see how long i keep this around. i told my fiance id let her keep it at her apt for home defense. ill load it with .38, she's not the best shot with my p226 9mm because semi autos in the duty calibers arent the easiest things to master. she wont even touch my p229 .357 SIG, it scares her. at this point i can pretty much pick up anything and hold about a 1" group at 15 yards. but it tends to be easier with my p226-9 or a good 1911.

I plan on buying a 9mm pistol sometime for some extra home protection. im a big fan of the 9mm round because todays quality jacketed hollow points, round for round, are about the same in effectiveness between 9mm, .40, .357 SIG, and .45. i have a .40 barrel for my p229, but it just sits. i never use it. pratice ammo in 9mm is cheap ($3.86/50ct box at academy), and practice will make you good. shot placement is what counts. and the only thing that will help with that is quality instruction and range time. if you buy a pistol let me know, im pretty current on teh prices and can help you get a good deal on something quality. go to the range and rent a bunch of pistol to find what you like, dont buy there. just rent. plan on spending about $400-500 on a quality used handgun.

$150 used Hi point ($100 pistol new) isnt a better deal then a $450 used SIG ($800 pistol new). so if you dont know your brands and prices, its easy to get screwed.

Yeah, I can't remember what it's called. Looks like a big revolver. I thin it also fires .45 colt.

i cant afford high powered rifles yet. i have a carry license so my focus has always been more toward pistols anyway.

Yeah, I can't either. They're not mine but I have "custody" of them for a friend for a while. I'm too broke buying parts for the big red money hole in the garage to afford anything like those. I do like the K frame Smiths though. Fairly light, well balanced. Excellent quality. Sigs never felt good in my hand, everyone is different, but they are exceptional firearms. I'd love to have something chambered for the .357 sig. I've had some handguns chambered for wierd wildcat calibers over the years and I like when a factory embraces something new. i cant afford high powered rifles yet. i have a carry license so my focus has always been more toward pistols anyway.

my p229 came as a .40, but i have a .357 SIG barrel in it and keep it loaded with 125gr speer gold dots. my p226 is a 9mm, and i keep 147gr gold dots in it.
i love the .357 SIG round out of the p229. the glocks in .357 SIG (G31, G32) tear up the webbing on my hand. i just find them punishing. i find the .40 glocks pretty punishing as well.
the thing you really get out of the SIG round is extra barrier penetration. the terminal performance of the round is almost identical to the 147gr 9mm rounds in a given brand. im a big believer in penetration, thats what the heavy 9s and the SIG round have on .40s&w. the .40 has about the barrier penetration of the 9mm. some just like a bigger bullet. i saw someone take a 147gr 9mm hollowpoint centermass and die before EMS arrived. all the rounds (9mm, .357 SIG, .40 S&W and .45 ACP) are so close in wounding capability for a given shot placement that know one will know the difference in caliber until the autopsy report is written.

Thats probably the most on the point statement I've ever heard on this issue. Everyone gets caught up in calibers that they forget the mechanics of shot placement. Bullet design also makes a huge difference. The only time I would disagree would be when talking of the larger calibers. I really like .44 mags and have had 6 of them over the years. You're just as dead taking a 9mm center chest as you are a .44 mag. The difference is if you get hit elsewhere. The sheer energy transfer difference of the bigger caliber is more likely to stop a threat if shot placement is less than ideal.
BTW, I have never shot a Glock that I liked and didn't feel uncomfortable.

a .44 (and up) are really for larger game. one shot will destroy a lot of human tissue. my boss (retired sherriff) put a .357 mag semi wadcutter thru a guys heart in a shootout in 1978. the managed to run 200yards before collasping and dying. i have a buddy who took a .45 in the shoulder and didnt know he was hit until he finished kicking the shooters ass. it aint the size of the dog in the fight, its the size of the fight in the dog.

I agree with that in some casses but I still say If I hit you with a handloaded .44 180 grain hydrashok your going down just because of the sheer energy and hydrostatic shock to the cavity not to mention the shattering of every bone it hits. I've heard of and read stories of guys carrying on after being hit. It happens. I'm just saying that those chances are lessened with the cannons. Don't get me wrong, I would take a double stack .45 or hi cap 9mm auto over a 6 shot .44 of any handload any day of the week.

I can't take credit for this collection but let's say we like to "reach out and touch things" in our spare time. From the top is a Remington Custom Varmit Laminated in 6mm Remington with a Nikon Monarch, next is a DPMS Panther in .308 with a cryo'd stainless barrel. There is a Leupold Mark III police tactical 4.5-20 for it not mounted yet. Next is a Remington 700 Sendero in .300 win mag with a muzzle brake and a Leupold VariX II. and Finally is a Remington custom police tactical in .308 waiting for optics. Haven't decided yet although the Nikon seems to be just as good as the Leupolds at a lesser price. I love the 308! What are you getting ready for Dave, WWIII?

Yeah we've been told that the woodchucks are staging a mass invasion with the hopes of looting our treasures and taking our women so we're gonna get em before they cross the 500 yard perimeter. They are not mine but a friends that I'm watching for while he's out of town for a while.
