I posted a song back when the board was first starting up, and I think only about 2 people were able to download it. If you have Internet Explorer, then it should be ok. Otherwise, you probably wont get it to work. If you don't have good speakers/headphones, then please, don't even bother downloading. ;D Right-click, Save-Target-As>>>hometown.aol.com/alex94tagt/shadows.mp3 (~2.6mb) Anyway, for a little bit of background, I'm not some big fancy composer, so expect the song to suck bigtime. This is essentially the 'core' of a new song I started writing the other night. It is NOWHERE NEAR finished yet (as you can tell), so it's going to sound mediocre at best. There's still a lot I need to go back and add/edit. If you get this to download, I'm not sure what to explain about it. This isn't the best I've written, but we'll see where it goes. I liked that it was kind of a twist between genres -- not exactly rock, not classical, just something in between. Every individual note you hear came out of my head, so this isn't quite like 'playing in a band', where you only have one job to do. The piano, the guitar, synthesizers, and the drums -- all has to be written and integrated separately by myself. Each two-minute song takes probably 5-10 hours of work. Maybe I'll upload more if I don't get laughed off the board.

Nice song Alex, ;D Itll sound awesome when you get the lyrics in. I, for one, find it amazing that one person can do all that to make a song. I wouldnt mind hearing more. You have got alot of talent. Keep up the good work. I really like the absence of music with just the beat, and then the drum doing an intro to the next "rythm". Sorry if you dont understand that, but Im not up to par with the music lingo. I have a hard time figuring out what Im trying to say.

You mean, it actually downloaded and worked? There's a first. Thanks, that makes me feel better. I'm always critical of myself, so I take other people's opinion very seriously. And yes, I know exactly what you're saying regarding the lead-ins and whatnot. I'm glad you picked up on it. Unfortunately, nobody will ever hear any of these songs with lyrics. I never joined choir, so I never learned to sing. I spent all my time in band. So, I've never bothered writing lyrics, but I can't imagine it would be that difficult. As it stands, this is just a hobby anyway -- I'm the only one that listens to it. Here's the last thing I'll post for now. It's a guitar solo that fits into a different song -- maybe I'll post the full song later. I just like the sound of it: hometown.aol.com/alex94tagt/gsolo.mp3 (504kb)

Cool song! I bet I could come up with some lyrics for it. I am really good at coming up with funny lyrics not serious or meaning full ones, I will just have to see were the mood takes me with it.

Tommy -- you're actually writing lyrics to that song???
Yeah, there are spots where it doesn't stick to a 4/4 time signature (-especially since I cut out a measure towards the end). That'd make it pretty difficult to write lyrics around...
Music itself is almost like writing in English -- instruments will question/answer eachother, every 4th & 8th measure complete a musical 'sentence'. There are a lot of patterns, just like in poetry. When you change something, such as cutting out a measure, it will throw the listener off of the beat -- forcing them to have to find the pattern again. It makes it more interesting.
I like playing in 7/8 time on the drumset for that reason -- has a really off-beat/funky feel to it. Hard to follow sometimes...

Ok, if you guys are really bored, here's a few more short clips from other songs. These aren't my favorite, but I guess are 'ok'. [1.52mb] hometown.aol.com/alex94tagt/sobriety.mp3 (-starts abruptly mid-song, but contains a section of a song which has the guitar solo I posted earlier.) [1.42mb] hometown.aol.com/alex94tagt/thru.mp3 (-inspired by some song I heard on internet radio that I liked.) I should note that none of these instruments are real. Every last bit of it is computer generated. If this keeps going, maybe I'll record a "real" solo clip of me on the e-drums -- which isn't quite as boring or 'stiff' as what you hear in these songs.
