My infamous horse trading father-in-law has another goodie in his hands, a Gray 66 SWB fleetside C10. I fell in love with it the first day I seen it! ;D It have been told that it is sporting a 350 engine and tranny, though I will run the numbers to make sure of this. I has longtube headers, 3 inch exhaust, H-pipe, and a pair of flowmasters dumped. It also has a set of ralley wheels with all the chrome goodies. I took a peek under the chassis and found a 12 bolt rear-end too. The interior is kinda rough but it has a newer bench seat that is in good shape. It has a recent but crappy paint job. Its one of those rough it up and paint over everything paint jobs. No rust though and not much body work needs to be done. The carb is shot and it has manual steering and brakes. None the less I am considering coming off some of this ford crap I have for this bowtie. Hopefully if everything goes well this weekend, I will be a the new owner of this truck. I will get some pics up either way this coming weekend. Wish me luck!

I would but that would cost me a small fortune. If I get the truck, I think a 425hp 350 will do for a while. I plan on doing mainly some crusing with it and maybe some showing if I get it nice enough. Of course if I get the urge to go faster, which I probably will, thats when good ole' Mr. Big Block will start calling my name.
Speaking of big blocks, a good friend at work just got a roller 454 crate motor for his 1st gen ss camaro. He works part-time at autozone and thats where he ordered it from. With his discount, a $6000 crate motor only cost him $4200.

Anyone know how I can identify the engine? 283-350 all look the same to me.

I thought about VIN decoding but I wonder what is the chance of it being an orginal engine?
Anywhere you guys might know of on the net for looking up casting numbers and/or decoding VIN numbers?

Nevermind I found several sites for VIN decoding. If anyone needs to look up a VIN, I posted the sites in the technical link section.

Anywhere you guys might know of on the net for looking up casting numbers and/or decoding VIN numbers? casting numbers are way too general. my block in mar '79 camaro is for 305 and 350s for sure but it might also be 327, 307, and 302 i have seen some unreliable sorces as to the later three, but good sorces to the first two, and my block was used from like 69-81 in camaros

The truck orginally came with a powerglide and a 283. It now has a THM-350 tranny and the engine is a 350 out of a mid 70's model camaro.

ahh so it has no power. the mid 70s sucked for power. torque it has, just no HP Yeah, I had a '76 Camaro Type LT with the 350 4-barrel, 4-speed, spoilers, yadda, yadda. I think it was rated at 175 hp. By today's standards it is a dog, but in it's day, it was pretty quick. The only stockers that could beat me were Corvettes and Trans Ams (400ci), and only if they had a 4-speed. I could take the autos.

Yeah, no power but torque. I will fix this problem quickly if I end up getting the truck.

I forgot to mention last night that I ran across a 95 caprice for $800. Tree fell across it but the motor and tranny are good. Just so I have my facts straight, the caprices have a LT1 with X amount of power and what kind of tranny?
