Besides the water passages, What other differences are there in a LT1 block and an older style block. I know that the water jackets are suppose to be different. I am curious if a person could use an older motor that has the distributor located in the back would fit or would there have to be mods made?

if you want a different block so you can put a distributor in there is no point. the lt1 has the hole in the back of the block that goes to the cam. they just put this thing over the hole you can just unbolt.

So I just get a different timing cover to block the distributor hole? Will this affect the computer any?

You have to use the stock LT1 front cover. You can just weld the opti hole shut. If you are going to use a LT1 long block and go carburated..........GM makes a dual plane intake to bolt right up for a carb that has the hole in the back for a normal distributer. You can also use a single plane but it will need to be drilled to fit the heads.
