Yeah I'm rot really a fan of the new Camaro concept either. The good news is that at this point it's still just a concept. I have a feeling GM's final product will be worthy of the Camaro name. At least I hope so

I think it looks great. Nice to see-em bring back the Camaro! One of the biggest mistakes GM ever did was drop the 'F' body line.

got this from GM HIGH-TECH PERFORMANCE MAGAZINE Chevy Camaro Concept This Camaro was worth the wait!
By Rick Jensen Photography: Henry De Los Santos , General Motors
GM willing, January 9, 2006 was the first day of the rest of your performance life.
On that day, two edgy, retro Camaro concepts were revealed at the L.A. and Detroit auto shows to impressed audiences--and judging from the public's response and GM's statements, an affordable, V-8-powered Camaro could be reborn as early as 2008!
Media representatives and Camaro enthusiasts alike, literally crammed into Detroit's Cobo Hall, were treated to a parade of some of the most memorable first-generation Camaros ever made before the Camaro concept appeared. Once its futuristic-meets-first-gen sheetmetal took the stage, it became clear that GM--and its much-insulted design team--took this vehicle very seriously.
Broken into sections, this concept has some excellent angles. One of the most powerful and passionate statements comes from a direct side view, which is RetroMod incarnate with its first-gen roofline and haunches.
There are also some weak points: the rear end seems a bit bulky, and the nose is smashed in. But when taken in as a complete vehicle the strong sections easily overpower the weaker ones, and the end result is a fascinating mix of old and new--not a complete knockout, but very, very close.
Rolling stock consists of massive, 21-inch front/22-inch rear rims of a classic 5-spoke design, with equally impressive 14-inch brakes. The drivetrain would no doubt challenge those big binders, as a 400-horse LS2 V-8 puts the power down through a 6-speed manual gearbox. An interesting addition to that LS2 is the use of Active Fuel Management, which is said to be able to shut down four cylinders under light load conditions.
One concerning aspect of this concept is the use of an independent rear suspension. When you combine GM's IRS problems in the past few years with future Camaro owners hoping for a mid-$20,000 base price, we'd be very curious to see how a production version of this concept could be kept, in Bob Lutz's words, "highly affordable" and an "astonishing value", especially since this show car was "designed with that goal in mind".
That being said, this concept is as bold and innovative as the GM brass wanted it to be, and is "this close" styling-wise to start a revolution. With Lutz hinting at a spring '06 decision regarding a production version, a bright future for GM performance may only be a couple of years away!

Wow! I like it! Not as "Retro" as I figured it would look, but it looks mean none the less. They went in a different direction than I anticipated, yet better than I thought. d@mn. I already want one. ;D

What are they doing to the new Camaro, that things looks so stupid, I was sent a pic of the Camaro beside the new Challenger and I thought they were the same car!! C'mon guys. It's just a picture of a concept car, and it doesn't look that bad. I think that concept looks pretty d@mn good. Just my opinion of course. Scott Settlemire (Camaro/Firebird Operations Manager for General Motors) told 1bad2k2ta (Tom) and myself that we need to wait until we see the car in person before we start to judge it. He said that it doesn't look good in pictures. Lets at least wait until the real thing is in production before we get nervous about it.

I'm not impressed whatsoever. I like the design/shape from the side-view, but I think the front facia is absolutely hideous! That grill and headlights? BLEH!!! The new design of the Mustang beats this hands down, imho. (-And that's coming from a die-hard f-body enthusiast.) Personally, I think some of the unofficial Camaro concepts done by non-GM employees (some of which were high-schoolers?) did a better job than this. If GM releases this new concept into full production, I hope it flops. Seriously, if this is the BEST they can come up with, then I wouldn't want to see the worst.

I really like the whole car, except for those rear-view mirrors and independent rear suspension. Give me a solid axle and some cooler mirrors and Im all over it! Im glad its not gonna be realeased untill at least 2008, it'll give me plenty of time to finish the 96 TA and start saving! Im sorry Alex, but this thing looks mean as hell and I love it! Those new mustangs look like they are, a tired and sad old dog. The grille and headlights on them give that sad, tired dog look with the droopy corners. The new mustangs are just like all the ones before it, cheap turds. The new camaro looks mean and pissed! Its looks are tellin them girl thingy mustangs to stay parked, the big dogs are comin out to play.

I agree 100% with AAron and Alex(btw nice pic Alex ;D). The side view looks good but the front and a$$ just looks terrible. I really hope that GM refines it more before they release it. This is just my opinion though

like i said insult the new mustangs all you want, my biggest complaint about ford is that they have no new ideas they just keep diving into retro, and they keep doing it to cars that were done right.
