Ok ive had my 94 transam Sitting for a very long time, I blew the motor and the trannys was going when it was running. I have around 4500 to spend and im going to be doing most of the work my self.
My current project was a 91 talon,EVO3 16g,HKS 272s cams and all supporting mods. It went low 12s on a stock side mount. Anyways im trying to get this car to be a great street car for least amount of money.
My goal is 12.9-12.5 all day long and thats really it. I was thinking about getting a CAM and staying witht he stock rods and using high compression pistons(JE) 11.1
Since the stock rods a pretty good and the car will never more than a 150shot down the road so i think its fine.
Im going to be getting a 3200 stall and a 373.
Any ideas or know of motors for sale?
Thanks guys JOE

You can do alot with $4500, just make sure you spend it wisely. You'll definitely have to do the majority of the work if you want to get a motor and trans. Is the trans an automatic? You can rebuild the motor with stock crank & rods, upgraded pistons, rings, bearings, and etc. for pretty cheap. Then spend $50 on some porting tools and gasket match/blend the heads and intake. Then get a nice cam and supporting valve train and your track goals should be relatively easy. An automatic trans rebuild can get pricey though... If you've never worked on these transmissions before, Id definitely have a professional do it for you. Sorry the boards so slow, it was down for a while and it seems people have forgotten about it. Invite your friends, and help this place grow a little

Well I think im going to keep my talon and build this car mild. I was thinking a rebuilt trans, with a 3200, and then a set of long tubes, cutout, and getting high compression pistons, and keep the stock rods. Only thing im not sure of is the cam, im want alot of power and I want to make it CAM only.
The car wil also see a 150-175shot, im on a budject and this seems to be the best idea...

What exactly is wrong with your motor and transmission? This will help us point you in the right direction.
If your looking to run quick on a budget, don't use JE pistons. They're GREAT pistons, but they're over kill for what your wanting to do. I wouldn't worry about raising the static compression ration either. Stick with the standard 4 valve releif, flat top design. Just use a decent quality forged piston like Speed Pro/Federal Mogul.

Just use a decent quality forged piston like Speed Pro/Federal Mogul. I agree with Raymond. Stay with stock compression pistons. Spend your money on the heads, that is where you will make the most power. Increasing head flow will directly translate to more power and if you absolutely want more compression, you can have them milled a bit to up the ratio. Then, get a cam with specs to match the port work on the heads, or let the head porter recommend the cam to use. After all, he will be the most familiar with what would work best the way the heads flow. If you decide to go this route, spend some time talking to your porter of choice, tell him how much power you want to make with, or without the nitrous, and let him make all the recommendations. Also, if you go too high on the compression and get some bad gas, you could run into detonation and do some damage even to forged pistons. Personally, I would not go over 10.5:1 or 10.8:1. The higher you go on the static compression, the more timing you will have to pull out. Add nitrous on top of that and you have to pull even more. Then, you must get it dyno tuned for the best results and reliability. So set aside about $400 for that.
