Hi guys, I was just gonna build a 383 LT1 for my 96 Z28, but I was searching around and saw 396,400, and even a 409cid LT1 on the web... Just curious does any have a or know about a 396 or larger LT1/4 motor? I know the stroke for a 383 is 3.75 and for the 396 is 3.875 also what difference does the overbore have? (the 409 i saw had a 396 crank with .100 overbore...) Thanks for your help...

1.00" overbore = physically impossible You'd have to sleeve the block to maybe do it, the stock cylnder wall isnt even near a 1/2" thick, so you cant make the hole 1" bigger. I dont think the cylinder centers are far enough apart either, this would mean siamesed sleeves.

Thats what I thought, but you never know with some of the guys that come on to these sites. Sorry I didnt give you the benifit of doubt. I'd still say the cylinder walls will become too thin... I've heard of people going .060 over in some cases, and others that have gone .090 over with a filled block. But those were cars that never see street duty. They go down the 1/4 once, then sit and cool for a good long while.

On my 398 LT4 i have a .45 over bore with custom .45 over JE racing pistons. But i got lucky and bought the block already bored and notched for rod clearence. Also came with Oliver Billet 4 Bolt main caps and ARP studs and bolts. I think the bottom end with be pretty stout.

I'd love to know what Lloyd got out of those Trick Flows.

No Flow numbers as of yet, i might try to give him a call here in alittle while see if he can email them to me. I am so courious to what they have flowed. I hope there up there if not better than an LS1 head.

I have been running a 396 for about 5 years now. I love it. The bottom end is stout but the only drawback is the main caps walking at high rpms. I have 4-bolt main splay caps and everything...they just walk a little. We are going to build a main cap girdle to fix that problem.
As far as larger than a 396...... For strenght....I would not bore more than 30 over if possible. It can really weaken the cylinder walls with anything over that even with a half filled block.

I bought my block that had already been bored .30 over, but the machinest said there was alittle scratch int he cylinder wall and had to bore it .15 more which is now .45 over. Its 398 cubic inches almost 400. But its been bored and honed by a guy that works for Robert Yates Racing. I'm pretty sure everythings aight.
It has Loyd Elliott Trick Flows Heads, valve sizes are 2.08,1.625. LT4 intake port mached the the heads, with custom Bauer cam. Callies Dragonslayer 3.875 crankshaft, Eagle H-Beam 6"inch rods. Oliver 4 bolt billet main caps. Canton Oil pan. 38lb injectors, Arizona Speed & Marine 58mm throttle body. Electric water pump, 1.6 comp rocker arms, Comp R roller lifters. 3800 stall converter, 4L60E rebuilt with trans go full race shift kit, 3:73 richmond gear in 10 Bolt. If 10 bolt and tranny last thats what i'll be running for alittle until i can get a 12 bolt.
