I know my stock radiator is gonna be worthless for me, so Ive been looking into aftermarket radiators... It seems the BeCool radiators are only rated to 400hp. The Griffen radiators are rated at 400 and 600hp. I heard that AFCO makes one for our LT1 f-bods, but cant find anything about it, not even pricing.
Who else makes radiators for our cars? How do they come up with these HP ratings?
Im going for 650 to the wheels, 765 flywheel... But to keep a safe margin, I figured the fuel system for 800fwhp... Noone seems to have a radiator for something that high, so I wonder how I should go about trying to match the ideal radiator to my setup.

are you going to daily drive this beast? if not then you might not need that big of a radiator for say drag racing it is only running for a min.
look at it this way a top fuel dragster and funny car have no radiator or even coolant. engine blocks have hard block in the coolant passages, think cement.

Yeah, Im gonna drive it the 5 miles to work daily, and weekend cruises/ rice car beatdowns. Although its only a 5mile trip to work, this time of year the snowbirds make it a 20 min drive in stop & go low speed traffic. My engine builder said the stocker definitely wouldnt keep it cool enough for street driving. If it were to be a track only car, Id leave the stocker in there with just water and water wetter. One more question to add to the list: If I use an aftermarket radiator, will my stock fans still be useable? By that, I mean will they fit the radiator, and if the radiator is thicker will it affect how close to the motor the fans will sit?

the stock fans work on my buddies turbocharged 383 with a thick be cool. that car makes 770rwhp.

With the D1-sc though, the 12-rib pulleys and belt are rediculously close to the fan shrouds as it is. I guess that I could do some more creative notching of the fan shrouds to clear. And if that dont work, then start looking for something else. I know my stock radiator had no problem keeping my stock motor cool with the blower, so I dont see how they can rate these things according to HP levels. My stock motor made 450 to the wheels, math says 530ish flywheel... So If I can get a radiator rated for 400+ HP, I should be good right?

we are about to convert that turbo car over to a procharger F1, so we will probably have some issues. the hp ratings of the radiators are more a guide. if you are a road racer and the car is going to be WOT all the time then those numbers are gospel. but for drag racing and cruising not so much. its not like your going to make 400hp just cruising around with no boost. if it were mine, id put it together with a stock radiator and watch the temp. if its hotter then i like then id put a bigger radiator in it.

You know, thats probably gonna be the best route. Worry about one thing at a time. So basically, any upgrade radiator will show an improvement, unless your building a 800hp road racer. Could anyone suggest the best place to buy a radiator price wise?

I installed a universal dual 1" core Griffin which I matched dimensions close to stock radiator. The inlet/outlet are reversed so it takes some creative hose setup, little patience, but here in Houston I run the ac sitting at a light and never get over 170. The BeCool & Grffin direct fits are too expensive IMO.
