Its a problem encountered by anyone who has owned a vehicle with a power antenna. The motor goes bye bye and you are left with a an antenna either stuck fully extended or somewhere in between. C4 Vettes are notorious for this problem in particular. This is a good "How To.." article I found on replacing the power antenna in your C4. corvettefever.com/howto/corp_0505w_antenna_replace/

About 2 years ago my Formulas antenna took a dump on me. Every time I got in and out of the car it would make this annoying grinding sound . So I went to Autozone(God I hate that place) and got the one that they said was for my car. Turned out that it was a universal GM antenna. I had to rig the sh!t out of it just to make it fit right.

Mine was bad went bad a couple of years ago on my Vette. I ordered an entire antenna/motor assembly from Corvette Central. The installation was suprisingly easy! The biggest problem is that the motor and antenna can only be accessed from under the driver's side quarter panel. You have to just about be a contortionists to get your hands up in there. The antenna works smoothly and silently now
