i saw on another car tech website that you can convert your opti to direct coil like on the LS1 but you have to keep the opti for the cam sensor. what would it take to do this? has anyone on here done this? what all does it entail changing? over the summer i plan on doing a sh*t load of performance upgrades and like i said i saw that on another website and that got me to thinking about doing it to mine.

Probably referring to the LTCC kit. Its a nice kit, but your still at the mercy of the optical sensor inside the distributor. I guess you could completely seal the unit with RTV to prevent any issues with the sensor though. Basically, the kit replaces your ignition module with their "opti box" to signal the LS1 coils. You can then open the opti and remove the rotor, and seal everything up with RTV when putting the unit back together. The core component of the kit though is the opti box, which converts the signal from the optical sensor into a signal thats capable of driving the LS1 coils. Im not positive, but I think the kit comes with everything needed except the LS1 coils and a way to mount them. Do a search on Google for "LTCC"... It should pull up a link to their website.

Sounds like a neat idea, but would it really be worth all of that?

im not for sure thats why i was asking. it would be to a certain point because its putting out the same spark but over a shorter distance so the spark would be stronger but still. thats a bunch of $$$.

well it's shorter and stronger but that's alot of extra fab after spending that much...............hhhhhhhmmmmmmmmmm maybe some one can make that opti box..............i don't see how hard it could be all it's doing is channel a signal for each each instead to one coil.
