Well last night a buddy called saying he was out cruising with someone in a '79 Camaro and he wanted to race.
Soooo, I went and met them near my house. And when I first saw this thing I almost backed out and went home.
It was running on MT ETstreet slicks, had a stripped interior with just 2 race seats, 6pt roll bar, a cowl hood almost even w/ the roof, and a nasty lope at idle... He opened the hood and showed me a 460somethin inch big block with a 6-71 blower and a 75 shot. He said he only gets 5psi from the blower.
We first gave it a go from a 45 roll while heading out to our "spot". We stayed side by side untill he hit the juice, and he jumped a car ahead of me an held it untill we let off around 120mph.
At the spot, we raced from a dead stop and he was spraying out the hole. He got his car length on me right off the start and held it untill I grabbed 5th. As soon as I got to 5th gear I started catching him quickly and he shut it down
We turned around and raced from a 30 roll back to wher we started, this time he called the race and I got him on the reaction. This gave me an immediate 3/4 car length on him untill he got on the spray, at which point he jumped to about 1/2 length on me and it stayed that way untill the end.
This had me all excited because I never expected to even be that close to him. He definitely had a traction advantage on the slicks vs my street tires, and he stated a race weight of 3000lbs to my cars 3600.
In all, id say my mostly stock LT1 f-bod did really well against him
After we got back to my place, he said he let off the one time just cause he knew I was about to blow past him in 5th gear! With his 3spd auto trans he was about maxed out just when my car was starting to shine ;D
I cant wait to see what he's got whenever I get a motor built
