I just need some reassurance. So I got a new cap for my radiator and i just found a HOLE in my radiator. Small crack about 4 inches below the cap. It doesn't leak unless the car is very hot when i turn it off.
Basically this is what happens. I can start it up, and as long as it sits it just gets HOTTER AND HOTTER. If I shut if off coolant will come spraying out of the crack and shoot on the engine and burn (it willonly leak when i turn it off) But if i start driving it, it will go down to normal tempeture. What could that be? Is it because of the crack in the radiator and the loss of pressure. I just ordered one and it should be here by the weekend so i will be installing it. I just hope that will be IT. I'm sure one of you guys can throw in some insight!!!!!!

wow!! you talk about coincedence i had the same problem. what its doing is when it leaks it relieves pressure there where the crack is thus when it cools down it doesnt leak anymore. it also doesnt seem like its leaking when your driving but it actually is, trust me. i had the same exact problem and i did a radiator swap and it fixed all that. when you do the radiator swap it will fix it. also be sure to get everything unplugged and all the hoses undone from everything which is really a PITA. be sure to bleed all the air out of the system. good luck and dont get too much coolant on ya.

i had the same problem last may. buy a new radiator about 60 bucks down at advanced auto. about 4 hour job if your good. also i reccomend buying a new coolant level sensor. if your car has high miles, if the light is not on already that low coolant light will be on soon. the sensor is about another 32 dollars. i forget the delco number but if you want it ill dig it up for you.
