Hio! sorry to have dragged you in here to read about whats prolly a NOOBish question but, Theres a friend of mine helping me rebuild my Turbo Buick and HE's having trouble with his late-mid 90's Camaro Z28 with an LT1...he's put in VENOM brand 32lbs. injectors and now the car is running really rich. Was there a specific CHIP for these 32lbs. that he should have bought with it? I dont think he has an adjustible fuel regulator and as far as I know all hes done was add prolly a good exhaust, and cold air filter when he slapped in there these bigger injectors. So is there a chip fix or should he invest in some handheld reprogrammer? thanks in advance!

So is there a chip fix or should he invest in some handheld reprogrammer? thanks in advance! Welcome to the site. Why did he add the bigger injectors? Was there something wrong with the stockers? If all he has done is cold air intake and exhaust, the stock size should still be sufficient. Anytime you add bigger injectors, you will need a good tune, preferrably on a dyno. Unless he has immediate plans of heads, big cam, lots of nitrous, or a blower, etc., I would recommend going back to the stockers. If he is going to add nitrous, etc., then he will definitely want to look into a dyno tune once the upgrades have been added. What are his plans?

Come to think of it...I may have seen a NOS solinoid at the back of the engine. My Buick should be turn key today so i'll have an excuse to go down and poke him for some answers as to WHY he stuck those bigger injectors in there if its gonna be a daily driver OR if he ever intended on NOS, SC, etc. Even if he does has a NOS set up...would just having the bigger inj. cause him to run rich when putting around town? How much HP can the stockers handle? I know theres a formula out there using BFSC and number of injectors...i'll dig it out once i hear how much the tocers can handle and what he wants to do with his 93 camaro. Thanks again!

If nothing is done to the computer, it will run rich. It still thinks it has the stock size, so it measures the amount of air, air temp, throttle position, power enrichment tables, and tells the injector to stay open x amount of time (pulse width). With the bigger injectors, that pulse width is too long. They flow more fuel for a given pulse width than the stockers. The computer will try to compensate for the rich condition, but the bigger injectors are likely beyond its range of compensation. So the pulse width and power enrichment tables need to be modified. Since his is a '93, I believe he will need to get reprogrammed chip. I think '94 to '97 could use LT1Edit or some other software to reprogram the onboard computer, but the '93 used eeproms. Hopefully, one of the guys who are a little more familiar with LT1s will chime in and keep me honest.
