Well, back on April 8th the San Antonio F-body Assn had a F-Body vs Mustang Shootout scheduled. I had dropped the car off at Henderson Performance Technologies to have my new electric cutout actuators and a 3" supercharger pulley installed. This maxed the D1SC impeller out at 6275 rpms. I had Corey retune for the new pulley and experiment with adding some 109 unleaded race gas and some more timing for a race tune for the shootout. This made very little difference; I think 6 rwhp and 3 or 4 lb/ft tq. So I had him set it back. Unfortunately, on the next dyno pull, it blew the driver's side head gasket......again. Same cylinder as before; #7. The tune was very conservative, so I beleive that this is, once again, due to a head o-ring/gasket fire ring misalignment due to manufacturing tolerance. I never had this problem at 6 psi, but when I went to 9 psi, it happened, and now again at 12 psi.
At any rate, I have decided to rebuild the whole top end. AFR 225 72cc small bore heads, and Kook's 1 3/4 stepped to 1 7/8 headers w/3" ory-pipe are on the way, FAST 90mm intake and throttle body are in the "paint and polish" stage, and I plan to order a custom grind cam from Vinci Hi-Performance this morning; Roger Vinci spec'd this one out personally. Pete Kotzur of Kotzur Racing Heads is going to flow the heads, cc the chambers, and shim the springs slightly for stiffer seat and open pressures. The headers are going to get a ceramic coating inside and out, as will the the ory-pipe once Corey customizes it with some QTP stainless cutouts. He is also going to fab up a new, hopefully less restrictive, hat for the supercharger. We believe there is another 3-5 lbs of boost waiting to be freed up on that side of the head unit. Also going to try the new SD Concepts fan/shroud setup to try and improve the airflow through the radiator. I don't want to see the overheating problems I had last summer. The car will likely be down for at least another 3 or 4 weeks, but I am anxious to see what kind of numbers it puts down with the new setup.
