Took the C10 out for a spin the other day with the new carb and decided to test her out.
At part throttle she drives fine no problems, but at WOT, it makes a constant backfiring that sounds to be coming from the intake. While it is doing this, it seems that the engine loses power. But like I mentioned before, it runs really good and has plenty of power as long as I don't have my foot all the way down on the gas.
What could be the problem? BTW, it had this same problem before I changed the carb.

Check timing first, if that doesn't do it, you will need to fatten up the secondary jets.

I have checked the timing but I thought I wasn't advanced enough. My mistake. I really doubt it is running lean with the double pumper. I will retard the timing and use a timing gun this time and let you know how things go.

does it have a problem starting when hot? It did so I backed off the timing to begin with. This is why I thought I needed to advance the timing more because I thought I backed off too much. I just checked the timing again and got the engine idling real good, starts easy too. I replaced the fuel filter and checked the fuel pump. I have got a clear fuel filter and the glass stays full of gas. Tried the engine again and the popping is still there. My father-in-law said he experienced a similar problem with an older car he owned, it ended up being a worn lobe on the camshaft. I am not sure how many miles are on my 350 but I think it may have a good many. Any other suggestions?

If it is old, it could have enough slop in it to cause high rpm problems. What kind of distributor do you have?

Probably could find one at my father-in-laws garage... I will check this out as soon as I can get my hands on one.

Ended up being several worn out camshaft lobes. New cam fixed everything. I ended up selling it though so I could acquire the Grape.
