help!!!

i have a auto trans in my 94 ta and the trans is sliping in drive ,1,2,3, in drive it has no power what so ever but in 2nd it has all the power what could it be do i need a new trans?

check the trans fluid level. to do this start the car get it warm and then take the dipstick out, it is on the passanger side in red, see if it smells burnt or looks real dark red it should be darker than new ATF but not real dark. the smell will be a very burnt smell, im not good at describing it. also make sure it is inbetweent he marks.

i would change the fluid see if there is any chuncks of cluch pack, then change filter and put new fluid in, see if that fixes it. if you dont have the money i would do this, if you have the money then id take it to a good tranny shop.

if you dont have the money and change the fluid and filter you might be able to, being nice to the car, get it too last for a while before you have it fixed.

i will let you no if that works in the next week or so becouse you no i am 17 so i dont make that much money and my mom and dad told me that if i beat on the car that i have to fix it with my own money lol thank you for the info.

If the fluid is burnt, and you change the fluid, it will get worse!
The fluid being burnt is an indication that clutch packs and/or apply bands are already toasted... If you change fluid, you wash all the parts and make them show their true condition, usually by having no drive at all shortly after the change...
Your trans needs a rebuild.

I HAVE BEEN TOLD TO JUST TO HAVE IT REBUILT AND PUT A STALL AND A SHIFT KIT IN IT BUT I AM TRYING TO SAVE SOME MONEY IF I HAVE TO HAVE IS REBUILT HOW MUCH WOULD IT RUN ME?WITHOUT THE STALL AND SHIFT KIT.

true, but there might be big peices in there and if he dosent have the money for a rebuild and the peices get into the tranny it really wont last. it is a crappy situation either way.

oh you might see about getting a used one of of ebay or something like that for temporary.

my mom told my that if i need a new trans. i have 2 options to sell my truck and than i have some money to do some things to my car and fix the trans or she will pay formy trans without my dad knowing it and keep my truck i just dont know what i should do i am thinking of selling my truck just dont no at this point.

I agree with aaron. You should diagnose this problem in steps. change the fluid to see if it improves, which I doubt it will. But if it does your good and you will save yourself a rebuild, if it doesn't, then you know the clutch packs are toasted and need to be replaced. I am not an expert by no means but I say tha you are looking at around $1000 if not more for a rebuild.

gotta love moms she helped me pay for my new clutch and my dad still doesnt know but if it were me id sell the truck rebuild the tranny and invest some more in the car. but thats me.

i have a guy in the f-body association that builds all of our trannys,i can give you his # he is here in san antonio , i would trust him with my life he is a good person,i will pm you his #,he might be able to fix it for alot less than a tranny shop and he's the best i have ever seen when it comes to 4l60's and 4l60e's,it might be cheaper to ship it to him and have it shipped back,give him a call and see if you 2 can work something out,he's on z28.com too and is known around texas and the surrounding states

my father in law has been building automatic transmissions for 25 years. ATF is a very solvent like fluid. he says that if the fluid is black and burnt or has clutch material in it, and you change it, its only going to wipe the clutches out completely.
