In Summit Racing: World Products/Merlin Crate Engine: 540 C.I.D. Chevy Big Block 600 HP, 640 FT/ LBS of Torque, Each $10,195.00 That's a pretty good deal. How else could you get a VERY reliable 600 HP, 640 LB/FT of Torque with a 2 year, 24,000 mile warranty? Raymond

This GM 572 is nice, but it doesn't make much more power, it only has half the warranty, and it's about $2,800 more. That $2,800 could go to alot of other goodies, like that Strange 9" rearend your gonna need. Raymond

Both the GM 572s are under rated. The 620hp GM 572 makes around 700hp at the crank, and the 720hp GM 572 makes around 800hp.

they are both bada$$motors. but the Merlin is a standard deck height and the GM is a tall deck so you would also need to look at that as to under hood clearance

Most of the time the only problem this will cause is from header fitment issues when trying to use the same headers you used with a standard deck height block. Many times the exhaust ports are raised just as much when switching from stock heads to aftermarket heads. So you could have a double whammy with header clearance when going from a short deck block with factory heads to a tall deck block with aftermarket heads. On the plus side, the tall deck block will give the motor a better rod angle ratio.

There was actually a 4th gen with a ZZ572 dropped in it at the G9 F-body gathering this Memorial day. Sweet ride!

If I had both motors in front of me, and I was told I could have one for free, I wouldn't think twice. I would take the 572. For just over 10 grand though, that Merlin is a good deal with that warranty. (2 year 24,000 miles) Raymond

GM likes to under rate their motors a little but the main reason the ZZ572s numbers seem under rated is because GM uses the newer SAE ratings, where most everyone else uses the old standard. I'm not saying that every 620hp ZZ572 is going to make 700hp, but there have been some that have done it. Likewise, a few of the 720hp ZZ572s have made in the neighborhood of 800hp right out of the box.

it also has a lot to do with the headers and intake/carb you chose, etc.
