Since I'm not doing anything major with the car for a few years I think I'll just beef up the 10bolt. I'll be going with an eaton posi and some moser axles.
Do you guys think this is a good idea or should I just go ahead and fork out the money and get a 12 bolt now? This is a mostly DD car. I'll goto the track maybe 3-4 times a year.

you will loose it at the track not daily driving it, at least not with most drag radials. the stickyier your tires get the more likely to pop a rear end.

I have a buddy who's running 9's with an 8.2 inch 10 bolt. Let me ask him what he's done to this thing to keep it alive. I'll get back with you guys.

the 8.2 and 8.5 are substaintially larger than the 7.6

the 8.2 and 8.5 are substaintially larger than the 7.6 True, but not big enough to hang with 9 second drag strip abuse. My point being, he knows how to make stuff stay together when it shouldn't. I'm sure he'll have some pointers for the 7.5 inch rear ends.

true, but the 8.5 i know a lot that survive there, they usually weld the tubes go with c-clip eliminators, new axles, and rear cover. these are pretty standard. and for most 7.5s it is still wasting money becaause it wont live as long as a stock 12 bolt.

Dont waste your time on the moser axles... You'll destroy the gears or diff before the stockers let go. If your not going to the track with sticky tires, wait on the 12-bolt untill you decide to start going to the track regularly. My stock rear has survived lots of hard miles on the street. Ive only managed to ruin the stock diff.

I have pretty much decided that I'm going with the 12 bolt. It's going to cost more now but I shouldn't have to replace anything. I sure hope not atleast.

in a 10 bolt i would use stock axles as a fuse. that way, if you break something, it wont be the gears. with a cover weve had 400rwhp cars run mid 11s for years (M6 cars) this way on slicks. just dont leave like a maniac.

i was behind a guy that drug the bumpa and let out of the trottle and well i sat there for 20 min while they cleaned up the parts.
moral of the story dont let off the trottle till you hit something, and yes the finish line counts as something ;D

i didnt do it either 4000 isnt the same as 6600, which is to say i usually dumped the clutch at 4k rpm. but my 9" was just happy doing it. granted my car only weighed 3200 with the 9" and me not in it
