Just wondering if anyone has any input, I have a 96 t/a which I recently put moser axles, eaton posi unit, and a set of richmond 3.73's in. I used the same pinion depth shim and set up backlash so there is little play as per specs. The unit seems to be set up fine, but during deacceleration or coasting there is a loud whinning noise coming from the rear, just wondering if Richmonds are this noisy regulalry, Any response will help

They will whine, but sometimes the pinion depth shim needs to be changed due to variances between the Richmond gears and the stock gears. If its really loud, there's a problem. I always check the pinion depth first because of this.

The whine isn't incredibly loud and there isn't any sort of viration that I can tell. Before I closed the diff cover I applied gear marking compund and the teeth seemed to align good.

I wouldn't worry about it, really. Probably just the normal whine from what it sounds like.

If its not loud, and doesnt vibrate... Dont worry about them for a while. Just remember that the more you hammer em, the noisier they'll get.

Thanks for the help, Ill let it go and keep an eye on it for awhile possibly take the diff cover back of and make sure the teeth are wearing properly.
