I tried once, at a buddy's shop... All I managed to do was burn holes through the material. I guess I need to master steel first, cause I still suck at that.

do you have the tools to weld?cause i can weld just have never done aluiminum,i know it's softer but all you have to do is take it slow.

it is a learned skill, i might be the one welding this years SAE formula car for Tech. and i need to practice

I wish someone would teach me to weld aluminum, I can only stick weld.

I haven't welded much aluminum, but it's much harder to weld for several reasons. First it has to be very very clean. You have to set the machine up correctly for it (most of the time a TIG machine is used for aluminum welding on race cars). But the thing that really makes it hard to weld is there is a very narrow temp range you have to achieve to weld it. If you go over that temp range it will all melt and drop out.

I have some good welding machines (Miller Syncrowave 351 TIG, Miller MP250 MIG and an acetylene torch), but I don't weld all that much. I mostly weld stuff on my own cars, but I did install a roll cage in a friends 95 Z28 and it turned out nice.

it is a learned skill, i might be the one welding this years SAE formula car for Tech. and i need to practice I'm working on the SAE formula car too down here at UCF. Last year I heard we did horrible (29th place or somethin). I'm in charge of making the intake/exhaust. Crazyz28

I don't do it myself, but I own 2 miller square wave TIG machines and a 220 Aluminum MIG gun. What do you want to know, I can have my guy answer any questions you have.
