I am looking for a cam that will work good with nitrous also. I don't plan on putting on differnet heads or a different intake. For now all I am going to do is the cam. Later on I am going to build a 383 with H/C but that wont be for a few years so now I am just looking for something with a little more lope. As stated I am running a 150 shot. Want something that will give me good drivability and have some good power. Also, should I replace anything else to compliment the cam??? Thanks

the CC306 and GM847 are pretty proven. for nitrous id go for the 306 because of the it has a little more of a split between intake and exhaust duration.

While there have been one or two people that have had good results with the GM847 / GTP-6 and stock heads....I wouldn't recommend it. It's just too much cam for the heads and you'd see better results with a different cam than just throwing on a big ole cam and crossing your fingers.
My heads/intake are worked and flow amazing and my GTP-6 compliments them nicely....I'd hate to try and run stock heads with a cam that big. Not saying you can't do it but there are many other off the shelf grinds that would work better with stock, unported castings.
The 306 is a good old standby but again there are much better grinds out there such as the XE grinds ie. 224/230 and 224/236.
You should replace your springs at the very least. The first time I did a cam swap I used the Hotcam kit which came with springs that were barely adequate for that cam.....I was seeing quite a bit of float in the upper RPM's. Lifters aren't a must, neither are pushrods but I upgraded both while I was there the second time. I also went with a Cloyes chain and CSI water pump. Again...these aren't absolutely necessary but there little bits of added insurance.
In the end it's all up to you but bigger isn't always better....especially with stock heads. I'm glad I have my heads done with the cam I'm running.

Also....are you manual or auto?
If auto you'll want a converter that matches your cam.

the fastest full weight, NA, stock head/shortblock LT1 runs the 847 cam. not saying its the best cam on the market, but it takes more then a single part to make a combination work.

For a good nitrous cam w/ stock heads, look into a Comp XE227/236 on a 114lsa. If you want to see how big of a cam stock heads like, try the Comp 233/242 on a 114lsa. If you plan on using nitrous, get a cam with a big split b/w Intake/exhaust and on a 113 or 114lsa. One thing to look out for is the power range of these cams. If you plan on using nitrous and you have to spin the cam to 6600 to get peak HP, then plan for a new engine soon. You should contact Comp Cams and see which cams get peak HP around 6100-6300, and then find which cam has the most duration and lift.
Personally, I am awaiting the arrival of a Comp XE230/236 112lsa for my stock headed car.

WOULD THE 224/236 BE A GOOD CAM TO GO WITH??? I MAY GO AHEAD AND PORT AND POLISH THE STOCK HEADS AND INTAKE. BUT I WILL LEAVE THE BOTTOM END STOCK. WOULD THIS BE OK??? I DONT REALLY WANT TO PULL THE ENGINE SO I THINK IM JUST GOING TO DO ALL OF IT IN THE CAR. SO FAR THIS IS MY LIST
PORT AND POLISH STOCK HEADS AND INTAKE HEADERS CAM TB TUNE
WHAT WOULD THIS NET ME HP WISE???
OR SHOULD I JUST INSTALL THE CAM AND CALL IT GOOD, EITHER WAY I AM GOING TO DO THE HEADERS AND AN ELECTRIC WATER PUMP. I NEED SOME INFO!!! THANKS AGAIN GUYS

it really depends on whos doing the porting. if you dont get to wild with it i bet it would pick up some hp. if i were you id just do the cam swap first.

I like my CC306 with stock heads. But that will change as soon as I get into the 11s with my current setup.

I HIGHLY recommend the 230/236. I just finished the install and drove it around. I haven't floored it yet (waiting to change the oil), but this thing definitely pulls like hell above 3k, and I didn't lose any power down low, either. If anything, low RPM driving has become smoother. There is very little cam surge, but nothing I can't tune out (btw, i have a tune from pcmforless as a base tune for this cam). The idle sounds mean, too. I'll video tape it idling and post it up tomorrow. Good luck with your decision.

There are so many good cams for a stock application it's really hard to tell. I like the XE grinds and have used the 230/236 with good results but my favorite cam for stock heads has to be, believe it or not, the HOT cam. Three cars ago I put one together with stock heads, HOT cam, LT's, 4" mufflex, 58tb with an aftermarket tune and it made 360 at the wheels. Now the stock heads were shaved a little to give it 11-1 but still, that didn't account for a huge power increase, maybe 5 or 10 hp.

If you are looking for a very good selection of cams, Combination Motorsports has got a huge selection and some decent details for the purpose of the cam. They have a 227/233 and a 233/239. I talked to Seth about a stock headed LT1 and he recommended the 233/239 over the cc306. He told me that the cam would pull like the 306 but with better driveability and more bottom end. They have a whole selection of n20 cams as well.
