From what I have heard most of it is simpley due to the "rating" that chevy gave it. They couldnt have the camaros and vettes having the same rated power. The reason they gave was "freer flowing exhaust" though.

The intake and exhaust manifolds on the vette are less restrictive.

The exhaust manifolds, and the rest of the exhaust system on the Vettes are less restrictive, but the intake manifold is the same. It's the intake "plumbing" that is less restrictive on the Vettes, and not the actual manifold.

I will add something to this. According to my 97 Firebird sales brochure the 96-97 ram air WS6 LT1 had 305 HP. I dunno about the 93-95 WS6 packages.

Don't read into ratings too much. Most stock F-body LT1s dyno the same as stock for stock as an LT1 Y-body with the same tranny. I know alot of people point to the intake and the exhaust being less restrictive on the Vettes, but I must say it is not drastically so (certainly NOT even remotely enough to give it a 15-25 HP advantage over an LT1 in an F-body). The engine is identical internally to the stock F-body (the only Vette that had a different cam than an LT1 F-body was the 92 and any 96 with a six speed tranny ) The only advantage a Vette LT1 has over an F-body LT1 is that all Vettes came out with 4 bolt mains versus 2 bolts for F & B body LT1s.
