Hey guys, I know that some of you are running true duals. My questions are. 1) Did you have trouble with subframe connector clearances. 2)What mufflers did you use? 3)Did any1 try to adapt an existing X-pipe or exhaust kit like the Rumbler from Texas Speed. 4) Have any of you used the Rumbler kit? 5) Is any1 using the round Borla XR1 mufflers? I was thinking of trying to fit those under my car, they are 5" round. What do you guys think?

A buddy of mine has a 93 with true duals, and it sounds wicked. Alot of that is compliments of the custom ground cam he got from Comp (slightly larger that the 306). Now to your questions....
1.) The exhaust was completely custom and SFCs were already in place before the exhaust, so no problems there. The exhaust isnt full-length though. Stops at the mufflers, no turndowns or anything.
2.) The new Edelbrock SDT mufflers.
3.) Had a customized X-pipe put on.
4.) No.
5.) No.

I have got a question I would like to add to viscious95z28's questions. How would the 02 sensors be hooked up on a dual exhaust conversion? I know factory dual exhaust vehicles have a 02 sensor for each pipe, with a single exhaust there would only be one. Would you need to splice in a 02 for the new exhaust side or would it be ok to just run the 02s on one pipe?

Those two are used to measure how well the catalytic converter is functioning. If you just put them both in the same line, your SES light will come on. Try using o2 simulators.

Ok.... I see where I got confused. I didn't see the other precat 02 that was on the farside manifold in my truck.

J.D, car looks great man, about the xr1's. What do they sound like?. I was dissapointed to find out from Borla that the "s-type" muffler that they use for the c-5 corvette cat-back is unavailable in any form other than this specific catback. Borla rep tells me that the xr1's sound nothing like the "s-type" and that it's primarily for quieting down race cars. I have been doing a search on true duals around the web and have found that alot of guys are using the universal exhaust kit from Summit Racing that includes the x-pipe . I need to go over the rear though b/c Va state inspection requires rear exit to pass. I thought of using the BMR upper panhard bar and going over both sides of the rear. I may just use Spintech mufflers though. I really like their sound and have seen flow bench #'s compared to competing brands and #'s don't lie. Flow bench says that the Spintech muffler outflows everything in it's class. These tests include different variations of muffler types and brands including Borla, Flowmaster and Dynomax. They have a Prostreet muffler that measures 4"x6"x12" that's a pretty workable size. I've thought of placing both mufflers behind the rear kinda like GMMG. I GUESS ANYTHING CAN BE DONE IF YOU TAKE YOUR TIME AND USE GOOD SENSE AND SOME PLANNING. All help is appreciated. BTW, I'm pretty new here but I love this site. I'm glad that there doesn't seem to be a LT1-LS1 war going on. thanx guys!

I dont know if anyone here has heard them, but those new Edelbrock SDT Technology mufflers sound really, really good.
I forgot to mention that I have also got a friend with an 87shortwide with an LT1. He runs single chamber flows, with an X pipe and LTs. He used to not have the X pipe, but then he decided he would give a custom made one a shot. They DO make a difference. They gave his truck alot more low-midrange power, but I couldnt feel it as much in the higher RPMS. I would definately consider X pipe on a true dual setup if I was doing it.
Just my .02

I think that he/she likes the boomtube better than a dual setup. What is a boomtube anyways?

I run Lanes true duals, i love them, but i need to extend them over the axles. they are dual 3" pipe with a dr. gas x-pipe. Flo-pro twister race mufflers.... realy nice setup... easy as hell to install since it is all one piece.
