a while back i let the oil change place my fiance works at do an oil change on my Z. the first and only time anyone else has ever touched my car. it needed an oil change and i wasnt gonna have time to do it for several more weeks. anyway, ever since then its been dropping oil press. under load above 4000rpm.
so, these nutbags didnt agree with me running SAE 30 in the summer in tx. so they put 5w30 in it for me even tho the reciept says sae 30. i found this out only because my fiance works there. they also put a 1/2 qt filter on it and filled it with 5 qts.
ever since then ive had problem. i put 100 miles on their 'oil change' and it was really dark. i put a wix 1qt filter on it, put my 5qts of castrol sae 30 in it and everything was ok but it was still dropping a little over 5K (like 5 psi).
lately ive noticed it dropping more like 10-15 psi. so i thought my shortblock is fu(ked. when they overfilled it i talked to the 'head ASE certified mechanic on duty'. his 30 years of automotive knowledge told me it wouldnt drop oil pressure. it would just foam it and be no big deal. so any way the conversation with the ASE (Ask Someone Else) certified mechanic got me know where. not even a refund of the $30 i paid for an oil change that lasted a weekend before i changed it.
ive been really concerned about my motor as of late. it still ran good and had good oil pressure except under hard acceleration above 4K. i had a hypothisis that maybe even with the 4qts that are supposed to be in the pan, and my 1qt wix 51060 filter maybe the oil was getting over the windage tray under hard accelleration. i didnt want to test that theory by draining a qt with just mineral oil just incase it made the problem worse by sheering at high rpm and spinning a bearing.
so, tonight i put a total of 4qts (3 in the pan and 1 in the filter) of red line 10w40 in it. not only has the problem completly disappeared, the car pulls harder then ever. i am worried no more. just thought id share.
